Criminal Law

Criminal law is one of the most extensive forms of law and for people who don’t practice as lawyers; it’s going to be difficult to know about the full expanse of this law.  Lawyers and attorneys who invest their time and their efforts on the criminal law system would learn about all the angles in it and can see how this law affects life and why these rules are essential in keeping the peace and maintaining order in society.

For the main part, these laws were created so that society has a way of ensuring the safety and quality of life that its citizens have.  When acts that are damaging to the society are committed, these are labeled as crimes and as such, they are punishable by things like imprisonment and fines.  Criminal law is implemented on the local government level, the state level and the federal level and depending on the gravity of the offense, there will be a corresponding punishment.

These laws establish what actions are considered crimes, how much intent or mindset is required for a person to commit a crime, and also the proper punishment.  If you look at a section on burglary for example, you’ll get a specific definition for it on the California Penal Code and it will have the various mindsets for the crime and the corresponding punishment.  It’s through a person’s conviction or their own admission that they’re punished with having to pay a fine, community service, imprisonment and so on.

The main players in the criminal law system are police officers, prosecuting attorneys, the accused, criminal defense attorneys, judges, witnesses, bail bondsmen, correction officers and probation officers.  When a person is suspected of a crime and charged with a crime, their rights can be found in the US Constitution.  Criminal law provides justice for all parties involved.
